PrattMWP College of Art and Design
Utica, New York
Pratt Institute of Brooklyn joined forces with Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institution in 1999 to create PrattMWP. The goal was to offer art students a two year program in a smaller more intimate environment before moving seamlessly and directly to the Brooklyn campus of Pratt Institute!
I don't know if it's easier to gain admissions for sure, but I if the tuition and location is any indication - this looks like a back door into Pratt. The tuition is almost half the cost of the Brooklyn campus, guarantees housing for the two years complete with drafting tables in the dorm room if needed!
And Utica is probably very charming.
Maybe the Admissions Department has a prospective student that needs a little polishing before entering Pratt are deferred here. Maybe it's a good jumping off point for a student who may not be sure if she or he are ready for college - kind of a different kind of safety for some kids. But if you a student has good potential for art but needs to get some better grades to be a Pratt college student - what a great back door!
The good news is we have found a good safety school for Mimi, the bad news is that this campus
DOES NOT teach fashion. If this is the way in for her, she would have to major in drawing and illustration before going on to Brooklyn. I have sent an e-mail to Pratt-MWP asking about whether it's possible to graduate with a BFA in Fashion Design from Pratt if she starts off at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute.
I thought this was an interesting piece of information on a prominent art school.
AFTER ALL, NO ONE ASKS WHERE YOU STARTED SCHOOL, JUST WHERE YOU COMPLETED SCHOOL.
and now it's time for Mimi to work on her essays, portfolios, study for one more SAT and I will be on stand-bye
