Istituto Marangoni - Fashion and Design School

ISTITUTO MARANGONI
Fashion and Design School
Campus di Londra dell'Istituto MarangoniMilan, London, Paris, Shanghai

The Istituto Marangoni is a fashion and design school with 2,400 students, 92 nationalities, and 4 campuses in Milan, London, Shanghai, and Paris.  Let's start with London since we will be there first as our trip is coming up fast!
This man, Giulio Marangoni asked in 1935 "Is it possible to teach fashion?" and founded The Marangoni Artistic Clothing Institute in Milan where he was a well known tailor and designer.
The schools statement is "creativity is a gift to be nurtured, nourished, and stimulated continuously with passion and dedication" with theory taught alongside practice.  The school believes the schools passion for fashion unites distant cultures and different ideas with fashion being the common denominator.
Istituto MarangoniThe London campus is on the edge of London called Shoreditch.  This is a very trendy area for young artists and would be a very exciting place to work and study.A BA in Fashion Design is a 3 year program taught in English at both the Paris and London campuses.  It would be silly to teach only in Italian while in London, but we're glad to hear about English in the Paris campus!  The Istittuto Marangoni promises to produce a fashion designer who upon completing the full study will be confidant and independent with all the skills needed to enter the working world.  Graduates will have a full understanding of the process of design, create with both intellectual and technical abilities necessary to operate in the fashion world.

Students will be able to apply current avant-garde technologies, create collections based on informed analysis of materials and fabric, and fully capable complete collections in men's, women's and children's clothing.
Year One:
Design architecture, experimentation with cloth and design, designing collections and portfolios (so, sewing right away!) history of art and clothing.
Year Two:
Brand revival (like the rebirth of Sperry's Top sider that were cool when I was young?)
Connection between art and fashion
personal style, and contemporary views in fashion and culture.
Year Three:
Personal exploration and experimentation, design for a collection, development of a collection or preparation of a professional portfolio
The school believes that with so many connections with fashion houses and industry leaders that a student can walk right into the working fashion world upon graduation.  I don't think one would boast if that were not true, so let's hope so!
I will close with one last manifesto from the Istituto Marangoni School "The fashion designer is the inspiration for creative ideas and new trends not only in clothing but also in fabric development, the world of accessories, and style making."

This school is all about making a fashion designer out of you.

Pam
