Ralph Lauren at Smithsonian

Ralph Lauren was honored by the Smithsonian for his contributions to repair the age damaged Star Spangled Banner, which was the original inspiration for our National Anthem.  Hilary Clinton presented Lauren with the James Smithson Bicentennial Medial in the National History Museum where the flag has been returned to be on display once more.

There was also a Citizenship Ceremony performed!  15 immigrants (one for each star on the flag) were sworn in as American citizens with Hilary Clinton and Ralph Lauren in attendance.  Could their day have gotten any more special?!  Becoming citizens at a ceremony honoring the most famous American flag, with the former first lady, senator, secretary of state and possible future president and world famous designer looking on!

Lauren, who was born Ralph Lifshitz in 1939 to immigrant parents from Belarus has fond memories of his parents studying for the the citizenship test.  He spoke afterwards and said "You're lucky to be here.  I started with nothing but good parents and a good family, but the opportunity to use my talent - America gave me that."

16 years ago Clinton as the First Lady ask for Lauren's help in saving this iconic American treasure.  Lauren said "I've had a good life, I've had a wonderful life and I've tried my best to give back" and feels his contribution just got the ball rolling for others to help.
Hilary Clinton wore a royal blue pantsuit that Ralph Lauren made just for her.

Lauren went on to say"What I've done is from the heart, because that's the right thing.  And I've been successful doing that"

We love Ralph Lauren's style and grace.
