Bastille Day
Le Fete National
2014
We are feeling very fortunate to be here in Paris on their national holiday, Bastille Day. The French prefer 'Fete National'
The streets are lined with tanks and soldiers, some from other countries. All branches of the French military are here being lead by President Francois Hollande.
We were walking back toward our apartment after shopping at a flea market (still so expansive!) when we wondering why a large crowd had gathered around a park outside of the Hotel de Invalides
The grassy area was guarded off with police all around to enforce this - something was going to happen!
This isn't an actual shot - I just wanted relay the space.
My camera broke today! The next images are from Mimi's camera.
Huge army helicopters started flying around the park! Low and slow, it was amazing! Then after two landed another came and lowered 5 soldiers to the crowd, flew away, then returned to pick them up! When they did - they flew these brave soldiers around parts of Paris!
It was amazing!
After the show, they all landed and cut their engines, 5 in total. To think, we were just standing around wondering if something was going to happen! Military helicopters make quite a presence!
Tonight it's back to the Eiffel Tower for fireworks!
